Es Agua

2020

A publication divided into two parts. First, Es Agua, on guys, muscles, and jumping between two continents, research about patterns in masculinity´s history and the display of muscles in social media or gun show. Moreover, it studies how Flavio de Carvalho’s New Look and non-binary musician Dorian Electra had appropriated those patterns of traditional masculinities to use them as a material.

Second, Cuir a compilation of cuir text from Latinamerica. Understood as an attempt to adapt queer theory into the Latino context, cuir theory is a multi-voice field, sometimes exclusive or contradictory, that reflects the differences in a large region with different outcomes from a similar background. It is not Es Agua’s bibliography, but a gathering of texts that were an influence during the writing of the book.
